Treaties of Affiliation and Recognition
The bonds of amity that unite the Obedience to other regular bodies of the Egyptian Rite and of universal Freemasonry.
What recognition means
A treaty of recognition is the formal act by which two obediences acknowledge each other as regular: each accepts the origin, the rituals and the government of the other, and receives its members in visitation as brethren of the same work.
Affiliation goes one step further. It establishes a continuing relationship — shared instruction, mutual assistance between lodges, and the concert of two jurisdictions that remain sovereign in their own territory.
What we look for
-
Regularity of origin
A clear and demonstrable line of transmission, received from a body competent to give it.
-
Fidelity to the Rite
Rituals and degrees worked as they were handed down, without abridgement or improvisation.
-
Sovereignty respected
Neither obedience interferes in the internal government of the other; each answers for its own lodges.
-
Fraternal conduct
Discretion, loyalty and a word that holds — in correspondence as much as in the temple.
Requesting or proposing a treaty
The current register of treaties in force is kept by the Chancery of the Obedience and is provided, in full, to any regular body that requests it in writing.
Obediences, sovereign sanctuaries and lodges that wish to open relations with the I.O.E.R.M.M. are invited to write to us. Every request is examined with the seriousness it deserves, and answered.
Knock, and the door shall be opened
Those who feel called to the Initiatic Tradition are invited to write to us. Every enquiry is read and answered in confidence.
